Plant. Promote. Protect.

That’s our mission. And we invite you to join us in your neighborhood.

NeighborWoods is TreesUpstate’s community tree planting program. The focus is planting large and medium canopy trees in yards that provide community-wide benefits. Trees shade streets, clean the air, and promote community pride. Every community needs trees!

Free trees? Through a grant program, we are able to partner with qualifying neighborhoods for community tree planting projects for FREE. There is no cost to the resident or community.

Trees may be planted in front yards or back yards. Limit 2 trees per household. Together, we will coordinate a community tree planting day. Volunteer to help plant trees in your community!

What is a qualifying neighborhood? Contact us to find out! Qualifications are based on:
-median income
-property values
-minimum of 20 residents participating
-minimum of 25 trees total
-a community tree captain

Sleepy Hollow Neighborhood (Anderson)
with Talin Keyfer

Our neighborhood is special because of it’s beautiful mature trees, and we need to plant now to maintain our tree coverage for the future. On May 8th , we experienced a “Straight line” weather event with 75mph winds causing loss and damage to many of our trees. These magnificent trees protect us from extreme heat, flooding, provide habitat to the creatures like the owls and hawks that live among us and provide clean oxygen for us to breathe.

Contact Talin to learn more about the Sleepy Hollow Project.

Join us!

Volunteer to plant in Anderson on Saturday, October 19th. All tools and equipment are provided, and all ages are welcome to volunteer!

What is a tree diaper?

TreesUpstate provides a tree diaper for each tree planted as part of the Neighborwoods program to help residents water their trees. A tree diaper is a watering mat that lays around the trunk of the tree under the mulch. The tree diaper can absorb rainwater and can retain water for up to one month, slowly dripping it into the root zone of the tree. It lasts for 5 years.
